Dormy Vibe Bores You Out

Maybe it’s my preconceived notion, but I think I have the backup of most students living in a not-so-spacious and crammed dorm. We hate dorm decor because it is often bland and uninviting.

Sometimes we don’t even fancy giving it a fresh look as this place is typically generic and lacks personality. The wisdom is that welcoming decor shall make it feel like your own. But don’t get dejected. A Dormy decor is at least to some extent practical, but we can use our hands to transition the cold and uninviting aura into a homy one.

Mistakes to Avoid

One of the most common mistakes people make is choosing the wrong size rug. A small rug in a large room can make the space look cramped and uninviting.

On the other hand, a large rug in a small room can make the room feel cluttered and overwhelming. When choosing the size of your rug, make sure it fits the room's proportions and that there is enough space around the edges of the rug.

Another mistake to avoid is choosing a rug that doesn't match your decor. If your room is decorated in a modern style, a traditional rug might not fit in well. Make sure the rug you choose matches the style and color scheme of your room.

Is a Dorm Manageable or Feasible for Placing Rugs?

A big positive “Yes,” a Dorm can be manageable and feasible for placing rugs. A rug can add some personality and color to a dorm room without taking up too much space. When choosing a rug for a dorm room, make sure it is the right size for the space.

A small rug can add some interest to a room without overwhelming it. But that can also be a catch. If you botch up, problems arise.

How to Choose the Proper Size Rug for Your Dormy Room

When choosing the proper size rug for your Dormy room, there are a few things to consider:

  1. Measure the size of your room to determine the size of the rug you need. Make sure there is enough space around the edges of the rug to prevent it from looking cramped.
  2. Consider the furniture in the room. If you have a lot of furniture, you may need a larger rug to accommodate it. However, a smaller rug may be sufficient if you have a minimalist approach to furniture.
  3. Measure your space: Before shopping for a rug, measure your Dormy room to determine the size you need. Make sure to measure the length and width of the room, and take note of any furniture that will be placed on the rug. Preparation makes a perfect placement.
  4. Choose a rug large enough to anchor the room: When choosing the right size rug for your Dormy room, it's important to choose a large enough rug. This means the rug should be big enough to cover most of the room's floor space and extend at least 12-18 inches beyond the edges of any furniture placed on the rug.Transform Your Dormy Vibe With a Homy Rug: Size & Style Tips for Dorm Rooms
  5. Consider the shape of your room: If your Dormy room is odd, such as a long narrow hallway or an L-shaped room, you may need to get creative with your rug placement. For example, you could use a runner rug in a narrow hallway or place a round rug in the corner of an L-shaped room.
  6. Think about the function of the room: The size of the rug you choose will also depend on the function of the room. For example, if you're decorating a living room, you may want a larger rug to accommodate seating and a coffee table. On the other hand, if you're decorating a bedroom, a smaller rug may be more appropriate. But a dorm is usually for mere studying and book reading. If you want more function, fine-tune it according to your favor.
  7. Consider the purpose of the rug. A larger rug may be appropriate if you want to use the rug as a focal point in the room. However, a smaller rug may be a better choice if you want the rug to add some interest without overwhelming the room.

Use a Rug as a Headboard

Another creative way to decorate your Dormy rug is to use it as a headboard. Simply place the rug behind your bed as a beautiful and unique headboard. This is a great way to add some personality to your room without taking up any additional space. But it is just an ornament-oriented idea, for it can’t be much useful concerning its real cushion feature.

Mix and Match Textures

Mixing and matching textures is a great way to add depth and interest to your Dormy rug. For example, on top of your RugItAll rug(hypothesis), you could pair a fluffy shag rug with a sleek leather couch. This can create a cozy and inviting look perfect for a Dormy room. By the way, RugItAll rugs are made of eco-friendly Recycled Polyester + Recycled Cotton. They represent a fresh mix of synthetic material and are a great match for those traditional rugs to mix and match textures.

Classic move and tactic for rug placement. If you have a small Dormy room, using a rug to define different spaces can be a great way to make the most of your space. For instance, place a rug in your living area to define the space and make it feel more inviting. Similarly, you could place a rug in your bedroom to create a cozy and comfortable sleeping area.

Add Some Greenery of Vitality

Adding some greenery to your dorm room can be a great way to make it feel more inviting and homey. You can do this by placing potted plants on your rug or using a rug to create a cozy seating area around a plant. Check out some earthy-style rugs to set the greenery off or some nature-themed rugs for a reinforced vibe of nature. That’s a pretty sight to behold.

Play with Patterns

Add Soft Lighting: One of the easiest ways to make a space feel more homey is to add soft lighting. Rather than relying on harsh overhead lighting, use lamps or string lights to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. Why? It’s plain to see that soft lighting can create a relaxing and calming environment, making you feel at home with even some coziness.Plus, it's an easy and affordable way to add personality and style to your room. Try adding a string of fairy lights above your bed or using a table lamp to illuminate a cozy reading nook.

Incorporate Textiles: Another way to improve the Homy effect is to incorporate textiles such as throw pillows, blankets, and curtains. These soft and cozy materials can add warmth and comfort to your space as textiles can add texture and color to your Dormy room, making it feel more personalized. Plus, they're an affordable and easy way to switch up the look of your room.

Consider adding a few throw pillows to your bed or a cozy blanket to your reading nook. You could also hang some curtains to add color and texture to your windows.
